Visitors not only rely on our staff for information about Blue Grotto but about other area dive sites as well. Because of this, we frequently visit neighboring dive sites so that our staff can speak from firsthand experience.
One such site is Orange Grove Sink in Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park. Orange Grove is the only site in the park open to all certified divers.
If you go to Orange Grove, there are rules you must follow. Orange Grove is the entrance to a vast network of underwater caves. Because of this, only certified Cavern and Cave Divers, or those under the direct supervision of a qualified Cavern or Cave Instructor, may have dive lights in their possession when visiting Orange Grove Sink.
We dove Orange Grove last winter when receding flood waters had washed away the usual covering of duckweed, and the cool weather had prevented the usual summer algae bloom. Visibility was spectacular, as you can see in this video.
In case you were wondering, our staff was under the direct supervision of one of our managers, who is a qualified Cave Diving Instructor Trainer and Evaluator. Therefore, the fact they were using dive lights was well within the rules.
So, if you are curious about other local dive sites, feel free to ask us. In the unlikely event whomever you speak to hasn’t personally visited a site, there will most likely be another staff person who has.
