Snorkeling/Freediving Information
Blue Grotto is primarily a scuba diving facility. However, we do allow snorkeling and freediving under certain circumstances.
- Snorkelers are welcome on weekdays when we do not have as many scuba students who need the space. Snorkelers are also welcome on weekends as long as they are part of a larger group that includes scuba divers.
- Snorkelers must be at least eight years old. Minor snorkelers (under 18) must be under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
- Freedivers are only welcome if they are taking a class under the direct supervision of a certified Freediving Instructor. This, too, can only take place on weekdays.
Know the difference
- Snorkeling is when participants remain at the surface, breathe continuously through their snorkels and do not venture below the surface.
- Freediving is any form of breath-hold diving in which divers venture underwater, no matter how deep or how shallow. Unlike snorkeling, it entails substantial risk.
